Yes. You can communicate with your clients and share the in-progress forms using the Client Portal feature. This feature functions as a communication medium between you and the client.
For example, if you are unsure whether provided all the necessary information in the tax form is in compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations, you can share the form with your client and ask them to review it without leaving the account through any of the following ways.
- Directly from the Enabled Client Portal
- From the Review Return page
- Directly from the Enabled Client Portal
- Go to the 1099/W-2 dashboard, and click Client Portal settings in the left-hand navigation menu.
-
Click Share Forms from the Client Portal Settings.
-
Enable the Share In-Progress 1099/W-2 Forms
Once enabled, the client will receive an email to sign in to their secure portal and review the forms you've prepared under “Forms Review,” and create observations about forms that need to be updated.
2. From the Review Return Page
- In the review return page, click View Draft Copies.
- Provide the details to generate draft copies of your form.
- Once the file is ready for download, click Share File With Client under Action.
- Please be informed that you must enable Client Portal to share files with your client. To enable the client Portal, click Enable Portal. For step-by-step instructions on how this works, click here.
- Once the portal has been enabled, you can easily share the file with your client. You can also enter a comment in the comments box to convey to the client what the issue is about, and even suggest a solution and click Share.
- After sharing the file, the client will receive an email to sign in to their secure portal and access the shared file from you.
- Once the client signs in, they can find the shared file from the "File from CPA" section and view the comments you entered (if any).
The client will then respond to the comments as observations within the Secure Client Portal, and you will receive notifications of the client's observations and can respond to them as needed.
