How do I fix TIN Matching errors for W2s in TaxBandits?

TaxBandits' TIN Matching is an exclusive service for W-2 forms to avoid filing a correction for any TIN errors. Though SSA will not reject the W-2s for incorrect TINs, the agency will send a letter to the employees with incorrect TIN asking them to correct it. You then have to file a correction form W-2C. To avoid such inconvenience, we provide the TIN Matching service for W-2s.
When you opt for the TIN Matching service, we validate the employee's TIN in the W-2 form against the SSA database. For any errors due to TIN Match, we will notify you via email. You can then correct the TIN from the TaxBandits' Dashboard before the transmission deadline of Feb 1, 2021. We will allow a maximum of 2 attempts against each TIN after the initial error. If you fail to correct the TINs by the deadline, TaxBandits will send your return to SSA with the errors to avoid late filing penalties.
Here's how to fix TIN Errors in TaxBandits:
- Sign In to TaxBandits account.
- Go to 1099/W-2 and select the Employer & Tax Year.
- Click Transmitted Forms and click Fix TIN Errors.
- Option to SKIP or FIX the TIN errors is shown. Select the employees whose TIN you wish to correct. Click Fix TIN Errors.
- Enter the correct SSN and Employee Name.
- Click Submit for TIN Matching.
After you correct the errored TINs, we will again match the submitted TIN against the SSA database. We will wait until you correct all the errored TINs before transmitting the W-2s ( both errored and the verified ones) to the SSA. However, we will not wait beyond a cut-off date as it could result in late filing penalties.
If you skip the TIN Matching, we will send your forms to the SSA with the error TINs. Your employees can expect a letter from the SSA requesting you to correct these TINs. If they do, file a W-2C in TaxBandits.
