What should I do if the same TIN is associated with multiple payers under different names?

If the same TIN is associated with more than one payer name, you’ll be asked to choose the correct payer to avoid IRS rejections. This is important because the IRS may reject filings if the payer’s name doesn’t match their records for the TIN.

To reduce the chance of rejection:

  • If forms filed under a certain payer name were previously accepted by the IRS, we recommend selecting that payer.

  • If forms filed under a certain payer name were rejected due to a name/TIN mismatch, we recommend not selecting that payer.

Once you select the correct payer, any in-progress forms using that TIN will automatically update with the selected payer’s name and details.

If any form is associated with more than one payer, it will be marked as a duplicate and moved under the Warnings section for review.
