I filed forms for this payer last year with the same Name/TIN, and they were accepted. Why am I getting this error now?

 In this case, the payer/TIN error may occur due to the following reasons:

  • The payer’s Name/TIN has changed since the last filing.
  • The IRS records may not reflect the most recent updates.
  • A discrepancy exists between the information on file with the IRS and what was reported.

To resolve this issue:

  • Contact the IRS to verify the correct Name/TIN associated with the payer. If the IRS confirms a mismatch, update the payer’s information accordingly before resubmitting.
  • If the information is unchanged, use the 'Use Previously Reported Name/TIN' option to retransmit the forms with the same payer name/TIN details.
