How to fix TIN validation errors on my 1099 forms?

Last modified 1/7/2025 7:39:49 AM EST

  Key Points to Remember:

  • You have 2 attempts to correct and revalidate the TIN before the transmission date. If both attempts fail, further validation is not possible. However, you can still update the TIN within the specified timeframe to ensure the changes are reflected in the form submitted to federal/state agencies and in the generated PDF copies.
  • After the specified timeframe, if the TIN is not updated, the forms will be transmitted as they are.

Follow the steps below to fix the TIN validation error:

Step 1: Select the payer from the dashboard.

Step 2:  Navigate to ‘All Submitted forms’ under the Submitted tab and click ‘Fix Error’ next to the applicable recipient in the TIN Matching column.

Step 3: TIN matching fails when the name and TIN combination do not match IRS records. Enter the correct TIN and name in the respective fields, then click ‘Update & Initiate TIN Matching.’

Once done, TIN will be updated Successfully.
