How to fix TIN validation errors on my 1099 forms?

Key Points to Remember:

  • The IRS rejects your return if there is a mismatch between the provided TIN and the name in IRS records.
  • If your return has failed TIN validation, corrections must be made within 96 hours or by the scheduled submission date, whichever is later.
  • If not corrected, the forms are transmitted with the incorrect TIN provided, which may lead to potential rejection and penalties.

Follow the steps below to fix the TIN validation error:

Step 1: Sign in to your TaxBandits account.

Step 2: Select the payer from the dashboard.

Step 3:  Navigate to ‘All Submitted forms’ under the Submitted tab and click ‘Fix Error’ next to the applicable recipient in the TIN Matching column.

Step 4: TIN matching fails when the name and TIN combination do not match IRS records. Enter the correct TIN and name in the popup, then click ‘Validate’.

Once done, TIN will be updated Successfully.
