How do I register South Carolina income and unemployment tax on my own?

South Carolina has an income tax and unemployment insurance. To pay these taxes, you must register with SC tax agencies. Here are the tax agencies to register with in order to submit the state taxes.

  • South Carolina Department of Revenue(DOR) 
  • South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce(DEW)

Register for SC Income tax

To report income taxes, you need to register with the South Carolina Department of Revenue (DOR). Upon registering online, you'll receive your withholding file number and tax deposit schedule within 24 hours. If you register by mail, the process will take about three weeks. 

To register income taxes, follow the instructions given below.

  • Visit the SC Department of Revenue online.
  • Scroll down the ‘Application & Searches’ section, and click the Business Tax application.
  • Select the type of registration and complete all the fields.

Register for SC Unemployment taxes

To file South Carolina unemployment taxes, you must register with the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW). Once registered, you will receive a six-digit employer account number within 2-3 weeks after registering.

To register for unemployment taxes, follow the instructions below.

  • Visit the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce(DEW)

  • Choose the ‘Employers’ from the options given.

  • You will find the ‘I Need To’ section under the section select ‘Register for an Account’ and click Employers.

  • Now, you will see the details needed to complete the registration. Check the box at the bottom of the page and click ‘Next’ 

  • Now, you can complete the other remaining sections.

The minimum wage rate for South Carolina is the same as the federal minimum wage rate. 

UI wage rate:

SUI taxes are used to provide benefits for the unemployed who lost their job through no fault on them.
