Indiana - W2 State Filing Requirements


The state requires the filing of Form W-2 if there are any wages paid to employees, even if there is no state tax withholding during the year.

Indiana State ID Format:

  • 13 digits – 10-digit employer TID followed by a 3-digit location number (e.g., 9999999999-001)

  • 13 digits – 10 digits, a hyphen, and a 3-digit suffix (e.g., 9999999999-999)

  • 13 digits – 10 digits, a space, and a 3-digit suffix (e.g., 9999999999 999)

Note: The state accepts your federal EIN as state ID.

Filing Criteria and Requirements


1: If there is any Indiana state tax withheld

  • Filing Method: Direct State Filing

    • You must file a W-2 directly with the state.

  • Additional Form Required: Form WH-3.

    • TaxBandits doesn't support filing Form WH-3 with the state. The payer must file the form directly with the state before the deadline.

  • Deadline: February 02, 2026


2: If there is no Indiana state tax withheld

  • Filing Method: Direct State Filing

    • You must file a W-2 directly with the state.

  • Additional Form Required: Not required

  • Deadline: February 02, 2026
