Payer’s State Number on 1099 Forms (NEC, MISC, R, and more) is the identification number assigned by the individual state to the respective business and is required when the payer reports state tax withheld from the payee’s income on their 1099 Forms. 

It is similar to the Federal Identification number assigned by the respective state agencies.

Reporting Payer’s State Number on 1099 Forms
 

Each 1099 online form requires the Payer’s State number to be entered on different boxes.

For Example:

  • For Form 1099-NEC - The ‘State/Payer’s state no’ is reported on Box 6
  • For Form 1099-MISC - The ‘State/Payer’s state no’ is reported on Box 17
  • For Form 1099-R - The ‘State/Payer’s state no’ is reported on Box 15
  • For Form 1099-K - The ‘State identification no’ is reported on Box 7
  • For Form 1099-INT - The ‘‘State identification no’ is reported on Box 16
  • For Form 1099-DIV - The ‘State identification no’ is reported on Box 15
