What is OFAC Sanctions Check?

The U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is responsible for administering and enforcing economic and trade sanctions. These sanctions target foreign governments, regions, individuals, and organizations involved in harmful activities, such as terrorism, international drug trafficking, the spread of weapons of mass destruction, and other threats to U.S. national security, foreign policy, or the economy.

OFAC sanctions can take different forms. In some cases, they block the property and assets of specific people or organizations. In other cases, they impose broader restrictions, such as trade embargoes on entire countries or prohibitions on certain sectors of a country’s economy.
