When is the deadline to file Form 1042?

The deadline to file Form 1042 is March 15th, the year following the calendar year in which the income was paid or distributed. If the due date falls on a weekend or legal holiday, the deadline is extended to the next business day.

For the 2024 tax year, the deadline to file Form 1042-S is March 17, 2025. Withholding agents can request a six-month extension by filing Form 7004, but this extension applies only to filing the return, not to the payment of taxes owed.
