How to obtain a FinCEN ID?

Starting January 1, 2024, reporting companies and individuals can obtain FinCEN ID.  To obtain the FinCEN ID, follow the steps below. 

For Individuals:

Starting January 1, 2024, individuals can obtain a FinCEN identifier by completing an electronic web form available at https://fincenid.fincen.gov. The process involves providing the following information:

• Full legal name
• Date of birth
• Address
• Unique identifying number and issuing jurisdiction from an acceptable identification document
• An image of the identification document

Upon submission of this information, individuals will immediately receive their unique FinCEN identifier.

For Reporting Companies:

Reporting companies can obtain a FinCEN identifier by following these steps:

• Check a designated box on the beneficial ownership information report during submission.
• Upon submission of the report, the reporting company will immediately receive its unique FinCEN identifier.

If a reporting company needs to request a FinCEN identifier after submitting its initial beneficial ownership report, it can do so by submitting an updated beneficial ownership information report. This can be done even if the company does not need to update any other information.
