The deadline to file Form 1099-SA with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) depends on whether you file it electronically or by mail.
If you are filing electronically, the deadline is March 31st of the year following the tax year in which the distributions were made.
If you are filing by paper, the deadline to mail a paper copy is February 28th of the year following the tax year in which the distributions were made. Whereas, Recipient copies of Form 1099-SA should be distributed by January 31st.
Note: However, if you file more than 250 Forms 1099-SA by mail, you must file electronically.
