What if I submit duplicate authorizations for the same client?


 If duplicate Form 8655 authorizations are submitted for the same client, the IRS may flag these as errors or cause confusion in their records. To avoid this:

  • Ensure that only one active Form 8655 is filed per business and Reporting Agent.

  • If a duplicate is submitted, one of the forms will be rejected, and the IRS may request clarification.

If you accidentally submit a duplicate, contact the IRS to ensure that the business’s authorization is correctly recorded.
