How do I register for Illinois income and unemployment tax on my own?

 Illinois is the state that has an income tax and unemployment insurance. To pay these taxes, you must register with the Illinois state tax agencies. Below are the tax agencies with which you must register in order to submit the state taxes.

Register for IL Income Tax and Unemployment taxes

To register for income tax and unemployment taxes through the Illinois Department of Revenue (DOR). You will receive a taxpayer ID and unemployment account number instantly after registration. Follow the steps below to register with IL DOR:

• Visit the Illinois Department of Revenue(DOR) website.

• Scroll to the ‘Register’ section and select the Register a New Business (Form REG-1).

• Complete the basic business information by providing

  • Organization Type

  • FEIN

  • Legal Name 

  • DBA

• Complete the registration, and provide third-party authorization to file and pay certain taxes on your behalf.
