The recipient TIN I provided is correct, but validation still failed. What should I do?

Here are a few tips to help resolve this issue:

  • Verify the Name and TIN Type: Double-check that the name and TIN type (e.g., SSN, ITIN, EIN) match exactly with what is reported on the IRS records. Even small discrepancies can cause a mismatch.

  • Ensure Accuracy: Confirm that the TIN has been entered correctly.

  • Skip the Error: If you believe the TIN is correct and the mismatch is likely due to temporary discrepancies in IRS records, you can skip this error and continue with the previously reported TIN. Your form will be transmitted with the original TIN provided.
