What is EIN? How do you apply it?

An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is a unique nine-digit number the IRS assigns to a business entity. Employers use EINs to report federal and payroll taxes. The IRS can easily track the tax status of a business using employers' EINs.

Applying EIN:
To apply EIN for your business, you must complete Form SS-4. It can be applied online, by mail, or by fax. You will need the required information to apply for EIN

  • Legal Name of entity
  • SSN, ITIN.
  • Business address
  • Type of your business entity
  • Reason for applying
  • Date of the starting your business

If you apply online, you will receive your EIN immediately. Applying through mail or fax might take four business days to process.
