How to download the draft copies of my 1099/W-2 forms?

Before transmitting the 1099/W-2 forms to the IRS/SSA, you can download the draft copies to view the form or share it with your clients.

You can download the draft copies while preparing tax forms or the In Progress forms that you created earlier.

To download draft copies while preparing tax forms, follow the below steps:

  • Once you complete the form details, you will be navigated to the Review and Select Services page.
  • From there, click the download icon next to the form that you'd like to view the draft copy or click "Bulk Download Draft Copies".

  • Select the 1099 form type and file format, such as PDF or Excel, and click Generate Draft Copies. The draft copy will begin to generate on the next page.

  • Once the PDF or Excel is ready for download, click Download.

Note: You can also generate draft copies of Form 1096/W-3 forms here.

For downloading draft copies of In-progress forms, follow the below steps:

  • To download the draft copies of In-Progress forms, select 1099/W-2 from the dashboard.
  • Click Inprogress.  You can view the forms that are in progress for the selected tax year and business.
  • Select the file format (Excel or PDF) you'd like to to download the draft copies.

  • Select the 1099 form type and choose how you'd like to generate the draft copy (without or with masked TIN). Once done, click Generate Draft Copies.

  • Once the draft copy is ready for download in the selected format, click Download.

Sometimes, it may take longer than usual to generate draft copies. You can either wait until the status changes to "Ready For Download" or click the Refresh button at the top to get the updated status. You will also receive an email once the draft copy is ready for download. Note that the draft copy link will be available for 7 days only.
