Have questions? We've got you covered! When is the deadline to file Form 1099-S?
The deadline for filing Form 1099-S with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) depends on how the form is being filed.
- If the form is being filed on paper, it must be filed with the IRS by February 28th of the year following the calendar year in which the real estate transaction took place.
- If the form is being filed electronically, it must be filed with the IRS by March 31st of the year following the calendar year in which the real estate transaction took place.
- A copy of the form must also be distributed to the recipient by February 15 of the same year, i.e., the year following the calendar year in which the real estate transaction took place.
It's important to note that if you fail to file a Form 1099-C or file it late, you may be subject to penalties and interest. Therefore, it's important to ensure that you file the form by the appropriate deadline.
