The deadline for filing Form 1099-C with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) depends on how the form is being filed.
If the form is being filed on paper, it must be filed with the IRS by February 28th of the year following the year in which the debt was cancelled or forgiven. If the form is being filed electronically, it must be filed with the IRS by March 31st of the year following the year in which the debt was cancelled or forgiven. A copy of the form must also be provided to the debtor by January 31st of the same year.
It's important to note that if you fail to file a Form 1099-C or file it late, you may be subject to penalties and interest.
