When is the deadline to file Form 1099-R?

The deadline to file Form 1099-R depends on whether the form is being filed on paper or electronically.

If you choose to file Form 1099-R electronically, April 1, 2024, is the deadline for the 2023 tax year. February 28, 2024, is the due date if you choose to file by paper, and January 31, 2024, is the due date to distribute Recipient copies. 

However, it's important to note that if you're filing 250 or more 1099-R forms, you must file them electronically with the IRS. It's also important to make sure that you have furnished a copy of the 1099-R to the recipient in a timely manner, as failure to do so may result in penalties.
