Have questions? We've got you covered! When is the deadline to file Form 1099-DIV?
The deadline to file Form 1099-DIV depends on whether you are filing the form on paper or electronically.
If you are filing on paper, the deadline is typically February 28th of the year following the tax year in which the dividends were paid. If you are filing electronically, the deadline is typically March 31st of the year following the tax year in which the dividends were paid. The due date to distribute recipient copies is January 31.
If the due date falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the deadline is extended to the next business day.
However, it’s important to note that if you are required to file more than 250 Form 1099-DIVs, you must file them electronically. If you fail to file the form by the deadline or if the information on the form is incomplete or incorrect, you may be subject to penalties. Therefore, it's important to ensure that you file the form on time and that the information provided is accurate and complete.
