Withholding agents requiring additional time to prepare a 1042 tax return can request an extension by submitting Form 7004 to the IRS. This form allows withholding agents to seek an extension of up to six months from the IRS. The extension process is automatic, and withholding agents are not obligated to provide reasons for the extension request. It's important to note that Form 7004 only extends the Deadline for filing the 1042 Form, and any pending tax payments must be paid by the original Deadline.

The Deadline to file Form 7004 for 1042  Extension is March 15, 2024.

You can file a 7004 Form with our sister's concern, ExpressExtension, an authorized e-file provider, which offers a complete solution for filing your 1042 tax extension. To learn more about how to file the 7004 extension with ExpressExtension, click here.
