How to e-file an extension of time for my W-2 forms?

Form 8809, "Application for Extension of Time to File Information Returns," is a form that both businesses and individuals use to request an extension of the due date for filing federal tax forms. 

Follow the below steps to fill out form 8809 in TaxBandits:

• Sign in to your TaxBandits account. 
• In the dashboard, click Start New >> Form >>8809 under the Extension Form category.

There are three categories of extension forms. If you want to file an extension for W-2 forms, then click the Select & Continue button under the Extension of time to file 1099-NEC & W-2 forms.

• If you are filing the extension for an existing business, select the Business Name by clicking on the Select Business button or enter the new business information for which you need to file the extension for the W-2 form. Click Save & Continue.

• Select the type of form you are requesting an extension. You need to check Form W-2 or Form 1099-NEC or both. Once the form is selected, the extension due date will be displayed.

 

• You need to select the reason for late filing and provide the mandatory details. Click Continue. 

• Once you click Continue, you can Download Form 8809 form or View Form 8809. Download the copy and send the postal mailing to the address displayed on the screen.

Note that It is your responsibility to print and mail the generated Form 8809 to the IRS. TaxBandits will only provide the PDF for printing, and we will NOT file the form with the IRS.
