If you, as a unit of a federal, state, or local government, made unemployment compensation payments, income tax refunds/credits, taxable grants, agriculture payments, and so on, you must file Form 1099-G. If you received payments on a Commodity Credit Corporation loan, you must file Form 1099-G.

The deadline to e-file Form 1099-G with the IRS is April 1, 2024. If you choose to paper file, the deadline is February 28, 2024, for the tax year 2023.  The deadline to furnish form copies to recipients is January 31, 2024.

It's important to note that if you fail to file Form 1099-G by the deadline or if the information on the form is incorrect, you may be subject to penalties. The penalties for failure to file or failure to provide correct information can vary depending on the severity of the error and how long it takes to correct the error.

If you are unsure about your filing obligations or need help with completing Form 1099-G, it may be a good idea to consult with a tax professional or use a tax form e-filing software like Taxbandits. We help you to ensure that you are providing accurate information on Form 1099-G and meeting all of your filing requirements.
