IRS Error Code[R0000-188]
Reporting Agent PIN provided in the Return must match the IRS e-File Database
Rejection Message:
The Reporting Agent PIN entered is invalid. Please check your Reporting Agent PIN and re-transmit your return.
What does it mean:
Reporting Agent PIN is a 5-digit identification number provided by the IRS to tax professionals. The tax professionals enter this PIN to file 941, 944, or 940 forms on behalf of their clients. This error code means that the Reporting Agent PIN you entered doesn't match with the IRS e-file database.
Resolution:
The reporting agent PIN is issued only to the Reporting Agents authorized by the IRS. The reporting agent must file Form 8655 with each business before or at the same time they file an employment tax return for them. The Reporting Agents will not be authorized to file a 94x return for their clients if they haven't filed Form 8655. So, if you're a reporting agent filing 94x returns on behalf of your clients, ensure you have a valid Form 8655 return.
