If your business hasn’t paid any employees during the quarter, the taxes to report will be zero. However, the IRS requires employers to continue filing Form 941, even when there are no taxes or wages to report.

Here’s how you can file zero reporting on Form 941:

  • Step 1: Sign in to your TaxBandits account.
  • Step 2: Click ‘Start New Forms’ on the dashboard, and choose ‘Form 941.’

  • Step 3: Enter the employer details manually or click ‘Select Employee From Address Book’ if you have already added the employer details.

  • Step 4: Choose the tax year and quarter you are filing for and click ‘File Zero Wages Return’ option.

  • Step 5: Select any option that applies to you and continue.

  • Step 6: Choose your preferred payment method for your return.
  • Step 7: Review the ‘Audit’ page. If any errors in your return, it will be displayed.
  • Step 8: Choose your preferred signature method to sign the return. You have two options:
    • E-Sign Form 8453-EMP: Send a signature request directly to your client for electronic signing.

  • Manual Upload: Download the form, sign it manually, and then upload the signed form back into the application.

  • Step 9: Select any additional services for your return. You can choose to receive text notifications or add postal services if needed.

  • Step 10: On the summary page, review your return details, deposit schedule, tax liability, and payment method. You can also preview and download your form here.

  • Step 11: Enter your card details and address to complete your payment.
  • Step 12: Your form will be transmitted once your payment is processed.

Once Form 941 has been successfully transmitted to the IRS, we’ll send you an email notification with the status of your form. You can also log in to the application anytime to check its status.

Additionally, a copy of Form 941 will be available in the Print Center for your records. For detailed steps on how to access a copy, click here.

Note: If your business has closed, be sure to indicate that this is your final return. This informs the IRS that you won’t file Form 941 for future quarters.
