Form 944 is an annual tax return form used by certain small employers to report and pay their Social Security, Medicare, and withheld federal income taxes for their employees.
Generally, employers who have an annual payroll tax liability of $1,000 or less for the year, or new employers who expect to have that amount for the year are eligible to file Form 944 instead of Form 941, which is the quarterly payroll tax return. Make sure the IRS will notify you to file Form 944 instead of Form 941.
Follow the steps below to file 944 in TaxBandits:
- Sign in to your TaxBandits account.
- From the dashboard, click ‘Start New Form’ and select ‘Form 944’.

Select the employer from the address book if already filed for this employer, or enter the employer information manually and click ‘Save and Continue.’

Click on ‘Start filing’ under the current tax year and file Form 944.

If you wish to file for the previous tax year, Click on ‘Previous Tax Year’ and Select the ‘Start Filing’ button under the tax year for which you need to file Form 944.

Provide the consent by entering the business name and clicking ‘Confirm.’

Employer information will be pre-filled. Enter Form information such as Federal income, Medicare, and Social Security taxes on Part-1 of Form 944 and click ‘Save & Continue.’
- Enter the Deposit Schedule & Tax Liability on part 2 of Form 944.
- Complete the information about your business, third-party designee, and signature part, and click ‘Save & Continue.’
- Payment Options:
Choose the payment options available to pay the IRS for 94x filing. If you owe any tax to the IRS when filing 94x forms, you can opt for payments to the IRS through one of the following methods:- Electronic Funds Withdrawal (EFW)
- Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS)
- Credit/Debit Card
- Check or Money Order

Once you complete it, a summary of the completed form information will be displayed. Click ‘Continue’ to proceed further.

If the form contains an error, the error code and error messages will be displayed on the audit page. Click ‘Fix Me’ to fix it. Once you fix all the errors, then click ‘Continue’ to navigate to the Signature page.

The IRS requires that electronically filed 94x returns are authorized with a signature. You can authorize the return using one of the following methods:

Online Signature PIN: To verify your identity as the authorized person, you can instantly sign e-sign your form using ‘online signature PIN.’

Form 8453-EMP: You can e-sign the Form 8453-EMP or upload your signature and transmit the return. Use this if you don’t have online signature PIN.?????????????????????
