What is the purpose of Box 14 (Other)?

Box 14 on Form W-2 is used to report amounts that do not fit in any of the other boxes. Employers can use it to disclose extra income or tax data for filing or informational purposes. Some employers use box 14 to report amounts deducted for State Disability Insurance taxes or union dues that may be tax deductible.
