The Maine Department of Revenue mandates the filing of the W2 Forms only if there is a state tax withholding. TaxBandits supports the filing of Form W-2 with both the SSA and the State of Maine.
However, we do not support filing Reconciliation “FORM W-3ME” with the state, and the employer is responsible for filing the reconciliation form before the deadline.
What to be filed
Form W-2 Wage and Tax Statements
Form W-3ME Reconciliation of Maine income tax withheld
The due date to file Form W2 is January 31, and Form W-3ME is February 28.
The penalty is $25 or 10% of your unpaid taxes, whichever is greater.
You should not send paper copies of your W-2s to the state. As an employer, you are only allowed to e-file your W-2s.
