The Employer's Annual Federal Tax Return Form 944 allows smaller employers whose annual payroll tax liability is $1,000 or less to file only once a year instead of quarterly.
Here is how you file Form 944.
- Sign in to TaxBandits.
- Click Start New >> Form >> Form 941.
- Enter the employer details or pull them from the address book and click Save and Continue.
- Choose the Tax Year for filing Form 944
Wages and Tax withheld
- Here you enter the wages, tips, and tax amount withheld for the reporting tax year.
- Enter the wage, tips, and withheld details and click Next.
Social Security and Medicare Taxes
If the wages, tips, or other compensation are subject to social security or medicare tax, Check the option in line 3.
Payroll Tax Credit
If you are eligible for the Qualified Small Business Payroll Tax Credit for Increasing Research Activities to report the credit of each tax year, then Line 8a will be enabled to enter the tax credit.
Balance Due/Overpayment
Enter the deposits made for the tax year. Overpayment or Balance due, if any is shown.
If you owe any tax to the IRS indicated by the Balance Due field, you can opt for payments through either Electronic Funds Withdrawal (EFW), Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS), Credit/Debit Card, Check, or Money Order.

Deposit Schedule
If your tax liability is less than $2500, you do not have to provide a record of your federal tax liability. If greater than $2500, then choose the respective deposit schedule.
Sign & File
Sign using your Online Signature PIN received from the IRS and proceed to file the return. In case you don’t have the Online Signature PIN, use Form 8453-EMP to sign the 94x return.

Print a Copy
