If you have filed Form 941 with errors, you can correct them with the Form 941-X, Adjusted Employer's QUARTERLY Federal Tax Return or Claim for Refund. This form is similar to Form 941 and easy to complete. In TaxBandits, we support Form 941-X to correct the errors made on the previously filed 941 Forms.
Form 941-X can be used for correcting underreported or overreported amounts. You can either adjust or claim a refund based on the nature of the error made. For the underreported amounts, you have to report the correct tax amount and file Form 941-X. If the amount is overreported, you can ask for adjustment or claim a refund.
Keep in mind that you should file a separate Form 941-X for each Form 941. For example, if you have identified errors on the Form 941 that you filed for the first and second quarters of 2020, you must complete 941-X for both the first and second quarters of 2020.
You can prepare Form 941-X in TaxBandits for a previously submitted Form 941. Once you have prepared the return, you can download it and mail it to the IRS. If you attach any documents with Form 941-X when you mail it, make sure you enter the name and EIN on the page's top.
